DIGESTION & ABSORPTION - Coggle Diagram
DIGESTION & ABSORPTION
-
-
-
-
Digestive Glands
- Liver: Produces bile secreted by hepatic cells (stores & concentrated in gall bladder)
-
-
- Pancreas: Secretes insulin & pancreatic juices (trypsinogen, chymotrypsinogen, procraboxypeptidases, amylases, lipases, nucleases)
Digestion of Food
-
-
- Proteins to Peptones & Proteases by Pepsin (in stomach)
- Starch to Maltose by salivary amylase (in buccal cavity)
- Emulsification of fats by bile(in small intestine)
- Proteins + Peptones + Proteoses = Dipeptides (in small intestine by trypsin, chymotrypsin, carboxypeptidase)
- Polysaccharides = Disaccharides (in small intestine by pancreatic amylase)
- Nucleic acids = nucleotides (by nucleases)
- Nucleotides = nucleosides
-
- Maltose = Glucose + Glucose
- Lactose = Glucose + Galactose
- Sucrose = Glucose + Fructose
- Nucleosides = Sugars + N. bases
- Di & Monoglycerides = Fatty acids + Glycerol
Absorption
- Mouth: Drugs in contact with the mucosa are absorbed
- Stomach: Absorption of water, simple sugars, alcohol, etc
- Small intestine: Principal organ of absorption with the help of lymph vessels, villi, mucosa
- Large intestine: Absorption of water, some minerals & drugs take place
