TASK 2 - STRUCTURE OF LYMPHOID ORGAN
TASK 2- STRUCTURE OF LYMPHOID ORGANS
THYMUS
Artery / Vein
Main blood supply.
Cortex
Outer portion that contains large number of small densely packed precursors of T lymphocytes.
Lymph Duct
Supports the development of functional T cells.
Thymic Corpuscle / Hassall's Corpuscle
Is known that Hassall's corpuscles are a potent source of the cytokine TSLP.
Capsule
It sends fibres into the body of the thymus for support.
Medulla
Central portion where the network of reticular endothelial cells is denser and where the lymphoid cells are fewer.
Interlobular Septum
Are delicate strands of connective tissue seperating adjacent pulmonary acini and primary pulmonary lobules.
LYMPH NODE
Afferent Lymphatic Vessels
It directs the cells to a draining lymph node.
Sinus
It drains the lymph into the efferent lymphatic vessels
Lymphatic Nodule
These nodes stand ready to attack any bacteria, viruses or other foreign substances that enter the body.
Germinal Center
a specialized microstructure that forms in secondary lymphoid tissues, producing long-lived antibody secreting plasma cells and memory B cells, which can provide protection against reinfection
Efferent Lymphatic Vessels
It flows out of a lymph node and carries filtered lymph fluid.
Capsule
Capsule sends trabeculae inside the lymph node, which pass inward, radiating towards the center.
SPLEEN
White Pulp
It contains immune cells called B and T-lymphocytes
Red Pulp
It filters the blood of antigens, microorganisms and defective or worn-out red blood cells.
Vascular Sinusoid
Known as wide vessels that drain into pulp veins which themselves drain into trabecular veins which also filter out cellular debris.
Artery
It supplies oxygenated blood to the spleen
Trabecula
The tissue provides internal support for the spleen and carries the blood vessels into the spleen.
Vein
It drains blood from the spleen
Capsule
It contains contractile cells called myofibroblasts. By producing weak contraction of the capsule that help to discharge the blood stored within the spleen into the circulation.
BONE MARROW
Thrombocytes (Platelets)
It helps with the blood clotting after an injury
Leukocytes (WBC)
To help fight the infection and diseases.
Erythrocytes (RBC)
To transport oxygen around the body.
