As an object for some verb.
afford, agree, appear, attempt, arrange, ask, beg, care, claim, decide, demand, expect, fail, hesitate
EX: I agreed to help him.
ex: He threatened to call the police.
Verbs followed by a pro(noun) + an infinitive
advise, allow, ask, arrange, beg, cause, challenge, convince, dare, encourage
ex: He advised me to study hard.
ex: He allowed his son to go out.
As a subject
Ex:To love is to give.
Ex: To save money now is necessary.
Used as the object of the adjective
unable, afraid, amused, annoyed,certain, delighted, determined,leased, prepared, ready
Ex: I’m glad to see you again.
Ex:We are unable to solve the problem.
Complement of the verb
Ex Our duty is to study harder
ex Our purpose is to finish the homework
A purpose
Ex:We study hard to pass the exam.
ex:We go to school to widen our knowledge.
Gerund
Object for some phrases and expressions
Ex : it’s worth buying that book.
Example : I am looking forward to seeing you again.
Some verbs that can be followed by either the Gerund or To Infinitive do not change their meaning: begin, start, hate, prefer, continue, like, intend, attempt.
Ex: I hate seeing you.
Ex: I like singing
Object for preposition
tobe interested in, tobe fed up, tobe worried about, tobe famous for. tobe afraid of, etc
EX: I am interested in playing football.
They are fond of watching films.
Some verbs followed by Gerund have different meanings and use To infinitive with other meanings: stop, remember, forget, regret, try.

Remember + to Vo.Remember + Ving
Ex: We always remember to turn off the lights before going out.
EX: I remember meeting you somewhere already.
Regret + to Vo.Regret + Ving
Ex: I regret to tell you that you have failed the exams.
Ex:I regret lending him some money. He will never pay me back.
Stop + to Vo.Stop + Ving
Ex: My father stopped smoking 3 years ago
Ex: My father stopped to help me with the housework
Try + to Vo.Try + Ving
ex: He tried eating the food I cooked. It was terrible.
ex: I try to study hard to pass the exams.
Forget + to Vo.Forget + Ving
Ex: Oh, I forgot to send your letter. I am sorry.
Ex I forget lending you my dictionary yesterday
Object for some verbs
Verb :admit,can’t stand, keep, mention, mind, miss, postpone, practice, played
I like playing football
She admited stealing a bike.
After the verbs allow, advise, forbid, permit, recommend, Gerund can be used without an object.
Ex: Sorry, we don’t allow smoking in this room
Ex: I wouldn’t advise taking the car
