Problem Solving
any situation in which you are trying to reach some goal and must find a way to do so. One creates new solutions for the problems.

An example of this would be The blueprints for putting together a desk as it would help the step-by step instructions for putting it together
Heuristic

When you see a person with their hood up in a dark alley you walk a little bit faster because your brain evaluates danger
means-end analysis
the problem solver begins by envisioning the end, or ultimate goal, and then determines the best strategy for attaining the goal in his current situation.
An example of this would be Two sets of neighbors arguing over who's BBQ is bigger. One is 3.5ft by 5ft the other is 1.5m by 1m.

analogical thinking
reasoning that is based on finding a common relational system between two situations, exemplars, or domains
An example of this would be, by using purification techniques, the people surrounding the Nile river can find safe ways to drink the water.
Verbalization
the expression of thoughts, feelings, and fantasies in words
An example of this would be, Children that are feeling angry may lash out at other students or teachers in words to express that anger
Transfer
phenomenon in which something a person has learned at one time affects how the person learn or performs in a later situation.
Positive Transfer
The facilitation, in learning or performance, of a new task based on what has been learned during a previous one
An example of this is if someone learns to drive a car then in theory one could learn how to drive a truck
Negative Transfer

An example of this would be a baseball player having to unlearn their golf swing during an at-bat to avoid hitting the ball straight up into the air
Specific Transfer

An example of this is, A student learns the items present on a car dashboard and can apply that learning to a different looking dashboard.
General Transfer
the transfer of general skills or principles acquired in one task or situation to problems in a totally different field.
An example of this would be, A baseball player using the skills they have learned on the field and applying them to tennis to help them make contact with the ball and follow through on their swing
MetaCognition

Mark Understand that he will need to ask his friend John and Scott for help on this project as more help with speed up the process with the deadline on the project
Mark has a blueprint for the design and build of the shed. He also has the exact measurements and dimensions of the shed mapped out. Mark knows the amount of materials he needs to get the job done and has it planned out in his journal.
