Why turtle walk so slow
:
Science Facts
Turtles are easily recognised by their bony, cartilaginous shell. This super-tough casing acts like a shield to protect them from predators – some turtles can even tuck their head up inside their shell for extra protection!
These creatures date back to the time of the dinosaurs, over 200 million years ago –
Turtles belong to one of the oldest reptile groups in the world – beating snakes, crocodiles and alligators!

They aren't hunting prey and their large body size afford them protection but it also slows them down (as happens to all animal's limb cycle frequency as they scale up). Turtles also have very efficient locomotion and muscle usage.

In fact, being slow is actually one of the reasons most turtle species are able to live for so long. Turtlеѕ hаvе a fаіrlу low mеtаbоlіѕm, аnd аrе among the lоngеѕt lіvеd vеrtеbrаtеѕ (оthеr rерtіlеѕ lіkе сrосоdіlеѕ, and ѕоmе fish саn live a lоng time tоо). Since they move so slow and don’t exert a lot of energy, they can go very long periods of time without food.
