Types of Bones
-
Flat Bone-thin, flat, and slightly curved.
STERNUM, SCAPULAE, RIBS, and MOST SKULL BONES
-
-
Bone Remodeling-bone deposit and bone resorption occur at periosteum and endosteum surfaces. Pockets of adjacent Osteoclasts and Osteoblasts.

Bone Fracture Repair
Four Major Stages
-
Fibrocartilaginous Callus Formation-Capillaries grow into hematoma, phagocytic cells clear debris, to which fibroblasts secrete collagen fibers to span break and connect broken ends; begins reconstruction of bone.
Bone Remodeling-begins during bony callus formation and continues for several months, final structure resembles original surface.
Bony Callus Formation-One week=new trabeculae appear in fibrocartilaginous callus; bony callus formation can continue for about 2 months until firm union forms.
Joints
Six Joint Types
-
-
-
-
-
Ball-and-Socket Joint-a joint with a rounded surface where the bone moves within a depression on another bone.
-
-
Disorders
Osteomalacia and Rickets-
OSTEOMALACIA:bones that are poorly mineralized;resulting in weak bones.
RICKETS:results in bowed legs and other bone deformities due to bone ends being enlarged.
