The Roles of the School
There are 3 main philosophies in education that form the framework in which to develop students as a whole! (They are called Macro-roles.)
Democratic Equality
Social Efficiency
Social Mobility
Furthermore, the school system expands students' character in many areas such as
- Citizenship- Schools develop students into good citizens. The goal is for students to be active, democratic citizens who respect others and fight for justice, fairness, and tolerance.
- Workforce Readiness- Students learn the basis of professionalism, oral and written skills, team skill sets, and democratic processes.
- Academic Achievement- Students meet academic standards so that they are well informed in various areas. A focus on academics with materials such as testing helps each student keep up with their grade level.
- Social Development- Students are taught social-emotional intelligence, how to respect differences, the unwritten rules of conversation, the norms for public behavior, and respect for authority.
- Cultural Transmission- The US culture passed down to youth through stories, history, what we value, and our rights so that they can maintain it and pass it onto further generations.
