FUTURE TENSES (GRAMMAR REFERENCE 2.1 AND 2.2)
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Uses: talk about arrangements for a future time
Example: I am doing my homework tonight.
Form: S + be + V-ing
FUTURE PERFECT
Uses: talk about a completed action/event in the future
Example: I will have done all of the homework by 12 p.m.
Form: S + will + have + VPII
MAY/MIGHT
Use: when we are less certain about the future
Example: I may visit my uncle next week.
Form: S + may/might + V-inf
GOING TO + INFINITIVE
Uses:
intentions and plans
predictions about the future based on evidence
Example: Roger is going to open his first cafe.
Form: S + be + going to + V-inf
PRESENT SIMPLE
Uses: talk about future events that are
based on a schedule or timetable
Example: The film starts at 7p.m.
Form: S + Vs/es
WILL + INFINITIVE
Uses:
predictions or future facts that we are certain about
future facts or predictions with no evidence
promises and hopes in the future
on-the-spot decisions
Examples: I promise that I will do my homework later.
Forms: S + will + V-inf
FUTURE CONTINUOUS
Use: talk about an action that will be in progress at a certain time of future
Example: This time next Monday, I will be studying at school.
Form: S + will + be + V-ing
FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
Uses:
emphasize the duration of an activity
talk about an action that will continue up to a particular time in the future
Example: I will have been studying online for 4 weeks by the time September ends.
Form: S + will + have + been + V-ing
