SCHEMAS
It has also been argued that schema theory cannot account for why schema-inconsistent information is sometimes recalled.
-
A significant amount of research has supported the idea that schemas affect cognitive processes such as memory.
-
Limitations of schema theory are that it is not yet entirely clear how schemas are acquired in the first place or the exact way they influence cognitive processes.
Memory Processes
-
Storage: creating a biological trace of the encoded information in memory, which is either consolidated or lost
Retrieval: using the stored information in thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making.
SCHEMA THEORY
Repeated Reproduction is when the participant learns about the material then uses is repeatedly in different ocasions.
Serial Reproduction is when one participant learns about something then passes on to the next participant and on and on.
BARTLETT and MINSKY
Minsky's Frame theory was that fixed generic information can be represented with a frame that contains slots; these slots accept a certain range of values. If the real world does not have a specific value for a specific slot, then the brain fills that slot with a default value.
Schemata were initially introduced into psychology and education through the work of the British psychologist Sir Frederic Bartlett

T: The Schema Theory is testable, we can see this thought the various studies conducted
E:There is biological backing for schema theory, however, the theory also predicts
