J describes marriage - seriousness - transcends contractual obligations and economic utility. Sharp reproof - marriage as a contract of convenience, casually formed and casually broken

If marriage is making one body, one flesh, divorce is like amputation - may be necessary - may heal and recover - but never pain free

Jesus' desire was always to protect the vulnerable
