- - - - Human activities have played a major role in altering the balance of the global sulfur cycle. The burning of large quantities of fossil fuels, especially from coal, releases larger amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas into the atmosphere.
    - - Humans affect it by the use of fertilizers and raising livestock, especially hogs. It is by these activities that we alter the phosphorus and, in reality, the nitrogen cycle as well.
    - - Human activities has a big impact on the carbon cycle. Burning fossil fuels, changing land use, and using limestone to make concrete all transfer significant quantities of carbon into the atmosphere.
    - - Humans are altering the amount of nitrogen that is stored in the biosphere. The chief culprit is fossil fuel combustion, which releases nitric oxides into the air that combine with other elements to form smog and acid rain.
