According to Plato, the psyche is composed of three elements; the appetitive, spirited, and the mind. The desires, pleasures, physical satisfactions, comforts, and etc. belongs to appetitive element. The feeling of excitement when given challenges, or fight backs when agitated, or fight for justice when unjust practices are experienced belongs to the spirited element. The hot-blooded part of the psyche is the mind however, this is what Plato considered as the most superior to all the elements. According to him, this refers to the nous – the conscious awareness of the self. This is the superpower that controls the affairs of the self. This will help the individual in analyzing, deciding, thinking ahead, proposing what is best, and rationally controlling both the appetitive and spirited elements of the psyche.
