Signs
Tip will be missing from the end of the instrument
upon removal from the patients oral cavity.
Symptoms
Patient may state that they feel something stuck
between teeth or in gingival tissue.

Nose Bleeds.
Causes
Digital Manipulation
Symptoms
Blood exuding from nasal cavity.
Posterior Nasal bleeds tend to drain
in the mouth causing gagging.
Acute Bleeding
Can happen post extraction.
Prevention
May use gauze or a moist tea bag
Seek immediate attention by provider
Apply Pressure
Symptoms
Hypotension
Hematoma
Fever
Excessive bleeding
Epitaxis PABCD
Use suction to removed blood if necessary.
Apply direct pressure for 15-20 minutes
Maintain airway & monitor vitals.
Have patient breath through nose & apply ice pack.
Upright Position; head tilted forward
Treatment for Broken Instrument Tip
Attempt to locate tip.
Dry area and lightly probe or palpate
the last area you were working.
Ask the patient not to move and try not to swallow.
Remove with curet or cotton tip pliers if located.
Maintain lip/cheek retraction.
Take a PA if not located.
Isolate the area with cotton or gauze.
Stay calm & inform patient.
Terminate / stop procedure
If not found treat as aspirated or ingested object.
