Gardo, Rat, Raphael, Father Juilliard - Coggle Diagram
Gardo
-
Rough
Gardo, as stated in the novel, can be rough and fierce as he likes, whether siding for Raphael or against him.
Given many beatings, Gardo knows what it's like.It says in the text, 'He can be mean, it's true - but then again, he's taken more beatings than me...'
Hard Worker
Despite being a boy who sorts out trash, Gardo works hard for money and his hands are always rustling through piles of trash.
Serious
Gardo has received very serious beatings, and his face is always serious. He never smiles and when some one asks him why, Gardo replies, 'Give me something to smile at.'
Ickle
After all, everybody is ickle to Cauliflower!
skinny
In the text, Raphael describes Gardo as 'thin as a whip'
-
Rat
Loves a bit of money
Although Rat did agree to hide the bag, he wanted some money. This is understandable though, since he is skinny with no-one looking after him.
-
Trustworthy
Rat agrees to hide the bag at his house. He also seems to do it for Raphael. 'He'll do it for me' Raphael says.
Poor
Rat is obviously a poor child. His only belongings are his home and clothes. In the text, it says, 'He would be dead if it weren't for the Mission School.
Skinny
Raphael describes Rat's arms as, 'As skinny as pencils'
Ickle
Being one of the hungriest boys, it's no wonder that Rat is ickle
Also, everybody is ickle to Cauliflower!
A good memory.
Although it doesn't say this in the novel, I think he has a good memory as he remembers where the key is and provides heaps of detail.
No family, no-one taking care of him.
In the novel, it says Rat has no family. However, you may think he at least has SOMEONE. But no, Rat has nobody apart from Raphael and Gardo.
In the text, it says, 'The thing about Rat was, he had nobody...'
A little rat-like
Rat spends a lot of time with rats, and soon started looking like one.
He has broken teeth, some that stick out, making him look like a rat.
Being a little rat-like, he doesn't have many friends either. Only Raphael and Gardo. It says, 'A lot of kids would just throw things at him and laugh
Raphael
Ickle
Raphael does not earn much money everyday, which leads to him being very ickle. He does not get a good amount of nutrition every week.
-
And for Cauliflower, everyone is ickle!
Resilient
Raphael is a boy who sorts the trash everyday. He doesn't whine everyday complaining that his life was horrible. Instead, he tries to make the most out of what he's got, which clerkly shows his resilience.
Raphael's resilience leads to his good mindset. He tries to think of positive things, not bad things.
Raggy Clothes
With not a good amount of money, Raphael only wears shorts and a t-shirt everyday. It says, 'I'm a trash boy with shorts...'
Hard Worker
Like Gardo, Raphael is also a hard worker. He works tirelessly everyday, searching for plastic, cardboard, cans and things like that at the dumpsite.
-
Kind
Raphael seems rather kind as he pays attention to Rat and talks to him, unlike others who just throw things at Rat and laugh.
Father Juilliard
Good brain.
-
He seems to make good points about how education isn't very useful if you are a trash boy picking up trash.
-
-
Easy to deceive.
Gardo, Rat and Raphael seem to trick Father Julliard quite easily. As it says in the text,, 'They had all got what they wanted, and had deceived me beautifully.'
