Harness Power Of Nature-Based Solutions to Fight Climate Crisis: G20 Ministers
In the G20 meeting the environmental ministers suggested that Nature-Based solutions should be prioritized.
Nature-Based Solutions could include putting better systems in place to restore, conserve and manage ecosystems in order to remove carbon dioxide from our atmosphere.
Issues to overcome -
The developed countries have failed to get $100 billion after the Paris Agreement that took place in 2015 while obtaining new financial resources to implement Nature Based solutions in developing countries.
$140-300 billion annually by 2030 would be needed in order to get Nature Based Solutions in developed countries.
About $280-500 billion is needed by 2050 to finance Nature Based Solutions globally.
There is a lack of direction with the idea of Nature Based Solutions.

On July 22 and 23, 2021 the ministers of environment, energy, and climate from the 'Group of 20' (G20) met remotely in Naples. They discussed their commitments toward improving the issues caused by climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss.
At this meeting there was an emphasis put on Nature-Based solutions when it comes to stopping climate change.
Although the energy and climate ministers agreed with the environmental minister, they wanted to place the emphasis on the importance of developing cities that were climate adaptive and resilient.
The G20 countries have discussed, and took action, prior to this meeting to use Nature-Based solutions to help fight climate change. Here are some of their solutions;
The Australian Government and World Wildlife Fund are currently developing a Nature-Based project to help build social and ecological resilience.
Brazil is restoring the Atlantic forest on the east coast with a variety of different partners (proctor and gamble, and WWF).
Canada is creating a natural climate solutions fund that will aim to invest around $4 billion over the next 10 years.
Since the 1998 mass flooding, China has been focusing in on nature-based solutions. They have established more than 20,000 miles of levees systems.
Argentina has launched the Forest AR2030 platform where they will boost sustainability within the environment through large restoration programs. In this program, they have aimed to restore two million hectares of forested land. In total, the country is planning on restoring a total of 300,000 hectares of native forest.
The European Union has implemented multiple projects and funding programs. One program they have funded is Horizon 2020, a program that is considered a 'financial instrument' with funding of nearly 80 billion Euros during 2014-2020. For the past four years, the European Cooperation in Science and Technology has also been funding bottom-up networks to help boost research innovation and careers.
Under the Horizon 2020 framework, Germany has taken on Nature Insurance values such as Assessment and Demonstration, and OPERANDUM.
Italy has had the idea where local enterprises and firms can lower their carbon footprint by paying for local afforestation and contributing to local environmental and social benefits.
Indonesia is working with Rainforest Action Network, an organization that protects and preserves forests and the climate, along side Indonesian partners to start long-term sustainable and equitable development.
Russia and the United Kingdom have collaborated to improve their Nature Based solutions.
South Africa has implemented Nature-Based solutions in Urban areas. In response to improve water security, South Africa has established a Greater Cape Town Water Fund.
The United States has included Nature Based Solutions into their hazard mitigation plans.
Each country is currently working towards the inclusion of Nature Based solutions, as well as plans to continue them in the future
