Assistant Stage Manager (Eunice)
Overly catastrophic over my plans, I always have a plan B. SOMETIMES CAUSING UNNECESSARY ANXIETY upon myself.
Have a more optimistic mindset.
MY SOUND ENGINEER IS A CLOWN
PRIORITIES.
Delay in paperwork. I always try my best to be literate and detailed in my paperwork but when my tasks started piling up, there was a delay in my work completions just because I wanted to be systematic.
SOLUTIONs:
Prioritise completing my work offline, update my team via group chats if I must update my paperwork late.
Perfectionist. I WASTE SO MUCH TIME ON TRYING TO PERFECT WHAT I DO.
Be more forgiving to myself if I make a mistake. Be less of a perfectionist and become comfortable with it.
Team communication.
My SM and DSM were communicating internally and I was always excluded. When they had to be absent due to lessons and I had to attend rehearsals alone, I was not able to answer when my director questions me about other departments (I was working with Props, SM was working with Tech and Costumes, DSM was working with Cast and Director.)
INITIATE CONVERSATIONS AND SHAMELESSLY ASK QUESTIONS.
MORE unnecessary anxiety, MORE obstacles when completing my work.
People panicking over small problems, making me panic when bringing up the problem to me and asking for help, when it could have been easily resolved it she thought with a calmer mind.
Learn to be calm and level-headed.
CONCEAL, DON'T FEEL, DON'T LET THEM KNOW.
Hierarchy.
My director keeps getting talked over by my set designer. She ended up just giving him the call when it comes to making visual designs (including costumes, props and AV) which he really should not have be a say in.
Always check back with the director, direct back the power to her.
I tried my best to be as disrespectful as possible. When she asked me to ask the set designer for his opinion, I would proceed to ask him, but after he has given me his opinion, I always said "I will check with her, to see what she thinks about it. Thank you." I wanted to direct back the power back to the director.
Master Electrician (Chia Min)
Challenges
Lack of Time
Due to the way of the filming process and the director don't want the light fixtures that are not used to be on the grid, so we had to rig and derig for every scenes. I need to do all the paperwork and get familiar of the lighting plans everyday after end of the call and received all the lighting plans from my lighting designer at midnight. This cause me don't have enough time to rest and I need to stay focused and awake during the production.
Solution
Get familiar to the process and what I should do before I get the lighting plan
Communication
I think we have lack of communication between the lighting team
Solution
Discuss more about on the process and the problem we faces, have some meeting for the lighting team.
Update each other more recent
Confidence
Week English language
Solution
Not so clear with the lighting plan
scare people don't listen to me when I speaks
Giving Instructions
In FSTS production, that was my first time being a leader and I was not so good in giving a clear instruction. Everyday we only have little of time to derig and rig all the lights, so I have to give a very clear, straight forward and understandable instructions to the crews.
Unexpected Challenges
All receiver for my practical light suddenly not working
Solution
The different process between filming production and theatre production
I Agree
Lighting Operator (Kelly)
Senior unsure what he is doing
Confuse which is tilting up and down
Cannot control lights cus hard patch or soft patch had issues
Not sure which lights is what number because the rig changes so often i got confuse
I dont always have cues as sometimes throughout the enitre filming i jus had to stay on certain lights for the nxet 30mins - 1 hour
Had to think of cues instead of being told what to do
Crazy amount of practical lights to bulid for the nxt show
Hope that we can confirm the lx for the nxt show as soon as possible
Need to piroitise what is important and what needs to be bulid first
instructions not clear enough on where senior wanted his lights at
Not all lights from the grid could be used for show sometimes i didnt even need to on anything and just use camera lighting as it was a better option for the filming
Head of Set (Ira)
CHALLENGES I FACE:
Unsure of what im supposed to do for my next show/role.
Taking the lead/being incharge.
Afraid that i'll be giving unclear instruction for next show.
Wrong documents done.
Being confident and holding onto a responsibility.
HOW I CAN FACE MY CHALLENGES:
Wrong documents: I should double check all my paper works to make sure it's all correct and make sure no mistakes are made.
Afriad of giving unclear instructions: I should plan our what im supposed to let the team do and do it with confident.
