Four Types of Thinking
Visual Spatial: patter thinker; recognizes patterns and uses them in understanding things
Strengths: math, building things, computer programming, music
Weaknesses: reading
Auditory Thinker: needs to hear to understand; poor visual perception
Object Visualizer: photorealist visual thinking; can see what they are thinking about and must be able to visualize a concept to understand it well
Strengths: art, building things, mechanical things
Weaknesses: mathematics
Language Translation: needs verbal facts in order to understand and comprehend.
Strengths: facts, history
Weaknesses: art and drawing
All Minds Are Different
Not every student or person in general will think in the same way as you.
Throughout history, some of the greatest minds all thought differently like Albert Einstein and Beethoven.
These people now might be diagnosed with Autism, dyslexia, or other learning disabiilities were still able to excel and do great things
All ways of thinking are valuable and crucial. Each mind can do things that others can't. Creates a diverse workforce.
As Educators We Can...
Allow all students, those with disabilities and without disabilites to explore their gifts.
Just because a child cannot do Algebra, does not mean that they will not have a successful career.
Teach for career readiness and practical skills
These hands on applications will help students learn what it is like to work and help them find a career that is appropriate for them in the future.
Practice visual thinking to improve common sense. Try to have kids visualize a problem and see a solution.
