CH. 2 Fundamental of Scientific Writing-STYLE
Use words that are precise when you can
Keep words simple (no need to use heavy unnecessary words). With that in mind get rid of any words or phrases that aren't purposeful to your writing.
Abbreviations should be avoided as much as possible because they can disrupt the flow of your writing. With that in mind use correct vocabulary and nomenclature (make sure to understand the correct use of words)
Use the location of your words to influence whoever is reading it (end is more emphasized than beginning of a sentence)
Since the end of a sentence is more emphasized than the beginning put familiar short info at the front
Put new long info towards the back
Subject then Verb then Object
Use first person when writing ("I" or "WE") as well as active voice
Observations should be stated in past tense, established knowledge is in present tense
Attempt for a main point in each sentence
Avoid clusters of nouns
Use parallel form correctly by using "but"
