Properties:

A low-carbon alloy of iron. Relatively low tensile strength. Rusts very easily.

Uses:

The most common metal used in school workshops. Used in general metal products and engineering.

Actually an alloy of iron (about 95%) plus carbon and silicon. Strong but brittle; resistant to rust and stains.

Uses:

Castings, manhole covers, car parts (engine cylinder blocks and heads, gearboxes).

Properties:

An alloy of iron and chromium. Tough, resistant to rust and stains.

Uses:

Cookware, cutlery, medical instruments.

Sheet, bar, tube.

aluminium

Properties:

Light, soft, malleable and easy to machine. Conducts electricity and heat well.

Uses:

Aircraft, bicycles, cars, packaging, window frames.

Comes as:

Sheet, tube, square tube.

hard to rust, very denst, heavy
