- - - - Unsustainability
        
        Nowadays most cities are unsustainable, due to their strong dependance on natural resources and increasing emission levels. The concept of urban self sufficiency can be seen as almost impossible in modern society.
      - Material + Energy Consumption
        
        Overall, cities consume large amounts of energy and mass while returning them to nature in forms that are harmful. Overtime, natural resources that are being extracted in unsustainable ways to sustain these cities become more and more scarce.
      - Space Occupation
        
        The use of natural resources to construct land and cities reveals the earth's complexity due to natural terrain that is destructed and reformed to fit human needs. During the construction of a city, we are able to see the different types of materials that can extracted and the damaging of nature.
      - Connection to "The ones who walk away from Omelas"
        
        Just as in Ursula Le Guin's book, "The ones who walk away from Omelas", humanity has progressed to the point where our expansion and prosperity comes at the expense of the environment that provides us. In the story, the prosperity and hapinness of the citizens of Omelas depends directly on the suffering of a child that lives in a cell, and that child might represent natural resources while the system represents the relationship humans have built with the earth.
    - - After being transformed and modified, many natural resources that could showcase the complexity of their nature become useless and are discarded. These transformed materials return to their environment harming different species and the balance of different ecosystems.
