If a language dies, does knowledge die with it?, Counter one another but…

- - - - Claim: Within indigenous societies whose cultures are at risk of being washed away or are very uncommon, it is very possible that with the loss of their cultural language, the knowledge within can or is lost almost completely but there are ways of continuing the dissemination of the knowledge through alternative forms. That being said, cultures that are not predominant in the global society, have languages that have very few to no speakers and the death of these languages may be insignificant to the globe as a whole because the culture will find a new way of expression.
        
        Example: Chinua Achebe writing Things Fall Apart
        
        Example Description/Specifics: Chinua Achebe chose to write this novel in English in order to provide universalization of his content. If he had used his African dialect and language that was relatively rare in comparison to languages as large as English. Achebe chose to write the novel in English to be able to share with the society as a whole but share the same story and same information just with a different outlet.
        
        Reasoning:
        
        Using an alternate language to share the same knowledge is an option that is still available. A lot of African languages are considered to be dead languages because of how few speakers are living. Achebe decided to share a story about the history of the tribe, which was knowledge that was available to the tribe through storytelling and records, using the English language to eliminate the limitation of his knowledge while universalizing the novel.
        
        Author, Chinua Achebe, chose another language to keep the knowledge from dying out. An alternate language choice is a path that can be taken to share the same knowledge.

Even though we have been able to decipher sections of these artifacts, we cannot fully determine the full language. Therefore, due to the knowledge we have obtained from these hieroglyphics being a pure interpretation, there is no way of proving whether it is factual information or not. Examples like this highlight the issue of the disconnect formed due to interpretation of these dead languages and how no true knowledge can root from it.

        The English vocabulary that was derived from the Latin Language, is still prevalent today. This supports that although the language of Latin died, its rare use still transfers the same knowledge.
        
        Medical terminology contains a lot of words that have roots from the Latin language. Latin is currently considered a dead language, but its presence is still valued in industries. The knowledge is still retained even though the language is dead. We still understand the meaning of those root words and use it on a daily basis in the medical field and are continuing to teach it.

        Example: Lukasa Memory Board

        The lukasa memory board is traced back to the Luba society. The small artifact was used to aid in oral storytelling and to keep records of the community. Although the dialect of the language that was used in the past has been deeply modified and has blended with other languages, to the point where the original dialect can be considered dead; the trained Lukasa memory board interpreters were still able to derive the information from the boards. The knowledge was not lost when the language died, rather was obtained through an alternate media.
        
        This artifact, a valued piece of art in the Luba society, is interpreted using touch, almost like brail. Although the verbal language spoken by this African tribe was lost and was modified to lose its origin, the expression through art allowed for the knowledge to be carried on even after assimilation to other cultures that led to the death of the original language.

        The Book of the Dead that contains the Last Judgement of Hunefer. The Last Judgement explores the concept of death. Upon its discovery, the language was not quite able to be interpreted because of the degree of how foreign it was. The language was dead. The artwork evokes an emotional response from the observer while exploring the concept of death. Although the actual language present on the artwork was unable to be deciphered upon its discovery, the emotional response was enough to interpret the culture's rituals and beliefs, therefore, retaining the knowledge.
        
        Although the language present on the artwork was unable to be interpreted credibly, the artwork possessed such an emotional topic, being death. The artwork shows the figure making their way through the different steps it takes to reach a successful afterlife, a sensitive topic for some. The emotions that revolve death allow for the knowledge of the death rituals and beliefs of the egyptians to be understood.
        
        Emotional interpretation of artworks allows us to find a truer meaning or a deeper meaning through personal connections. Emotions allow the viewer to use personal beliefs and prior knowledge to make a better connection and interpret anonymous concepts with clarity.
