This artifact, a valued piece of art in the Luba society, is interpreted using touch, almost like brail. The Lukasa memory board contains stories, legends, and cultural knowledge and is read through the feeling possessed by the trained interpreters. Although the verbal language spoken by this African tribe was lost and was modified to lose its origin, the expression through art allowed for the knowledge to be carried on even after assimilation to other cultures that led to the death of the original language.
