Though some progress in knowledge can be taken away with the death of the language it is recorded in, knowledge itself can still be obtained and does not disappear with the death of said language
The language of Akkad is long dead, which was used in the grater Mesopotamian area, and still we are able to uncover things about their culture, societal structure, and more.
Language is just a means of communication so in terms of knowledge it is used to bounce off ideas and record information for later use, however, just because we lose language doesn't mean that there aren't other ways of retaining said knowledge
