Great British Values - How we can support our children & parents
Democracy
We can aim to promote democracy using discussions, decision making and voting!
We can encourage our children to know that their views and voice count and their opinions are important
We can encourage children to make decisions together as a group!
Its important to encourage children to see their role in 'the bigger picture' allowing them to process what they are part of at nursery and at home as a family.
It is important as practitioners we provide the children opportunities to vote...anything from what book to read to choices of activities (age depending)
The Rule of Law
We can aim to promote The Rule of Law by demonstrating a need for rules and laws which help to keep us happy, healthy and safe.
As adults we can encourage children to work together to create group rules and discussing the need for them.
In this comes Managing feelings and emotions through understanding their own and others behaviours and their consequences.
As practitioners we need to work together to create and environment which is consistent and aim to help parents do the same. in supporting strategies at home and within nursery.
Personal Responsibility & Liberty
We can aim to promote Great British Values by allowing our children to have a choice.
We can do this by providing opportunities for the children to develop their personal self esteem & confidence in their own abilities.
Encourage children to try different activities to broaden their preferences and allow them individually to discuss these.
By allowing the children to have preferences, likes and dislikes we can help them create a positive sense of themselves as an individual within their friendships.
Mutual Respect & Tollerance of cultures & Faiths
We can aim to demonstrate respect & tolerance towards others beliefs, faiths & preferences.
Working together to create a positive environment which includes values, faiths, cultures and views of how each other lives.
We can provide opportunities for the children to make links with the wider community!
We can provide invitations to play and provocations which show diverse faiths, beliefs, traditions and communities. this allows the practitioners to extend their learning as a group and as individuals.
We can encourage our children to learn about the world around them, both locally and further afield.
