1937
Major territorial gains from the nationalists.
In April, Guernica is attacked.
Italian and German armies bombed the town of 7000 civilians.
1500 left dead, and many more injured
1939
The nationalists had occupied the majority of Spain.
Madrid and Barcelona were still under the control of republicans.
In February, nationalists took over Barcelona, after the city had been cut off of supplies from the rest of the country.
On February 27th 1939, Britain and France recognized Franco as the legitimate leader of Spain.
In March, Madrid fell (after unrest in the city), and the nationalists had control over the whole country.
