Adhesives (Glue)
Synthetic Glue:
Normally polyurethane. Dries v. hard and fast. Often expands as it dries which can help to fill in gaps and cracks. Used to join a range of materials. Waterproof & difficult to remove so take care when applying it.

PVA:
Polyvinyl acetate (PVA) is common and cheap. It soaks into the fibres of wood, cards and papers and encourages them to interlock as the water evaporates. Very strong for fibrous porous materials. Clear and colorless once cured.
Must wipe off excess glue before it dries to prevent glue stain. PVA is not gap filling so there should be no gaps between the wood.

Contact Adhesive:
Contact adhesive works when both material surfaces are coated & become touch dry. Adhesion works as soon as the two dry surfaces meet. Contact adhesives solvent fumes are really dangerous & good ventilation is imperative.
Used to join flexible and sheet materials.

Epoxy Resin: Comes in two tubes - resin and the hardener. They need to be mixed in equal 50/50 parts. You can get Epoxy resin with different drying times depending on the size of what you are gluing. Epoxy resin fills gaps and joins a variety of materials. Good to use when different materials are joined - eg. glass to steel, acrylic to plywood.
