Dragons- History & Lore:
How do humans and dragons get along?
Wild dragons tend to not get along with humans, as they are wild, but they can in some cases- just like how you’d see a human hugging a lion or tiger.
Domesticated dragons usually get along with humans just fine unless they are traumatically abused of some sort.
Who/What are these dragons?
The dragons are just another “animal” type beings who live with other normal animals on Earth.
These dragons are often wild or companions to humans- much like how cats and dogs are both wild and domesticated.
When did dragons become domesticated?
A long time ago. Long enough for various laws and regulations to be placed on certain species of draons.
Why do people own dragons?
In this world, dragons are just like any other animal, but they are slightly more rare and typically owned by people who have money- both the middle class and the rich. The domesticated dragons are often just used as companions, just like any other pet.
Some dragons don’t do much other than be a friendly companion, while other dragons might have special abilities that humans might utilize.
What kinds of abilities might be used by humans?
Fire breath: can be used for cooking, heating/ lighting a fire place, etc. Dragons with potent fire breath must be used with extreme caution as they could easily burn something down or cause harm.
Dragons with “invisibility” aka camouflage are often used by children who sneakily bring their pets to school even though they generally aren’t supposed to.
Many dragons have wings- some don’t, but the ones that do might be used for transportaion regarding that the dragon is both big enough and well trained enough (some dragons have wings but are too small to carry humans. In order to fly/ ride a dragon that can do this, you must have a dragon flying license and you must be tested with your own dragon at the DSF- Department of Soaring Dragons.
Where do these dragons come from/live?
As they are much like the other creatures on Earth, they live in various areas around the world. Different types or breeds of dragons live in various locations based on their genetics and ecological resilience.
The dragons just live in natural habitats until/unless they are domesticated, then they might live with humans
Different kinds of dragons live with different types of people based on social class. Dragons tend to be a bit more rare than regular animals, so usually people with money are the ones who own dragons, even though
technically
there is no law saying that poor people cannot own a dragon.
How do poor people get dragons if they cannot afford them?
If a poor person is able to train/domesticate a wild dragon on their own, then they can own a dragon, but since this is often a difficult and dangerous task, not many people have done it. (This is Kya’s case)
If someone who can afford a dragon gifts the dragon to a poor person, they can own a dragon.
Some dragons are both more expensive and larger, so these types of dragons tend to be owned more by wealthy people. [Larger dragons require a bigger living space- aka typically owned by people who own a lot of land or have larger homes.
Certain types of dragons also require a license, so these types of dragons live with the people who have a license.
Are there any laws related to dragons?
Extremely dangerous dragons or endangered breeds of dragons must only be owned by people who are trained with a special license to own the dragons.
It is illegal to purposefully use/demand your dragon to harm another human unless it is solely for the purpose of self defense.
There is no law saying that you cannot own a dragon based on your social class, however, systematically, rich people tend to own more rare & exotic dragons because of this. [Can afford it, have a larger space to house larger dragons]
What kind of dragon is Salvador?
Unknown. The kids who find him don’t have any idea since they haven’t had much experience with dragons being poor, but they do wonder why Sal doesn’t have wings since he looks like a breed that typically has wings.
How much do the kids know about dragons since they are somewhat secluded from the world? How do they get their knowledge?
The kids are somewhat secluded, but they aren’t banished or unaware either. Sometimes they go into the market if they can find some money lying around or if the nice lady at the fruit stand will give them anything for free. Sometimes they might see dragons walking or flying around the market.
How are these kids able to go about freely if they are minors? Why don’t they live in an orphanage or some sort of foster care?
These kids live in a “junkyard town” and “govern” themselves. They escaped from their foster homes, and live here together. Not every kid in this mini town come from the same foster home, but they all escaped bad situations and came here to live. The more responsible or older kids usually have more responsibility. This is illegal, but the government doesn’t know about it. It’s a secret town in a junkyard no one cares about. The junkyard owner knows that the kids are there, but he doesn’t mind them living there, and helps the kids keep their secret so that they don’t have to go back to their foster homes.
