6 Key Concepts
Democracy: People have the power to elect. Also have the power to make laws, and we have representatives.
Democratic Values: Beliefs held by democratic society- respect, equality, fairness, freedom.
The Westminster System: Form of Parliamentary Government. Originated in Westminster, London. 2 houses and a sovereign (queen)
Justice: Fair and balanced treatment. Legal system, fair trial, legal representation.
Participation: How we take part in democracy - voting, taxes. Give people ownership of their own decisions.
Rights and Responsibilities: Entitlements and duties. Have our own say & treated fairly. Constitution, vote, property, fair trial, religion.
