Poetic Devices in my Poem
Simile & Metaphors
A simile/metaphor has been used to help people understand better. Metaphors and similes have been used to compare two very different things and create images for the audience to make it easier for the audience to understand
"Relaunch the moments we had together just like relaunching a laptop"
Laptop and memories are 2 things that both involve some kind of data/moments and to deepen the message of thinking about memories to deal with death made it easier
"Life is a book"
Life is being compared to a book, where how life has different days could mean a book has different pages. A lot of people read books and to increase the connection with the audience the comparison of life to a book is used
Personification
Personification can make descriptions of non-human objects more vivid, or can help readers understand, sympathise with/react emotionally to non-human characters.
"Time clicked on resume"
Time is a noun that is personified by giving it the action of clicking. In this context time clicking on resume refers to time healing you and getting you out of your dilemma. A hidden message is given to the audience through the use of personification
"When death walks in, even hope dies"
In this case, both death and hope have been personified. Death is walking and hope is dying helps me convey the fear of death one has after experiencing it.
Alliteration
"Mouthwatering, majestic, marvellous dish which melted in my mouth"
To make sure the audience is engaged as well as to add a little positivity in the poem. Alliteration is being used through the constant use of the letter "M".
Exaggeration
"When I lost her my heart stopped beating"
This line is used as the beginning to the poem to indicate the impact of the problem. This line is clearly exaggerated as when one's heart stops beating one dies. This is a very deep and powerful line immediately drawing the attention of the audience
Anaphora
"I wish I could turn back time time, to the day"
In a way anaphora is used as a particular line is being repeated after a few lines. It allows the audience to make sure they themselves think about instances they might want to go back to/relive moments
Repetition
-
The whole poem uses a lot of repetition in quite a few places, repetition has been used for a few words as well as phrases helping create emphasis on certain things. In this context it helps make the audience more aware of certain feelings
