Students think about and discuss what they want to learn and set their own goals for learning. As mentioned, the KWL chart is a great diagnostic assessment tool for Kindergarten because students can reflect on what they want to learn and become engaged in their own learning by asking questions and thinking about the knowledge they already possess.
        
        Diagnostic Assessment For Learning: Diagnostic assessment for learning helps the teacher to understand what students already know about a topic, which then informs teaching. If students are already quite knowledgeable about a topic, then the diagnostic assessment can help the teacher to plan future lessons about the topic in order to reinforce what students already know as well as expand their knowledge about a topic.
