PLATE TECTONICS
THEORIES
Raisin Theory
At the beginning of the 20th century, many scientists explained the
physical attributes of Earth using the Raisin Theory
Theory of Isostasy
Charles Edward Dutton
Proposed the term "Isostasy" in 1889
Plate Tectonic Theory
Abraham Ortelius
Theatrum Orbis Terrarum
Developed and published on May 20, 1570
Continential Drift Theory
Alfred Wegener
The Break of Pangea
"Pangaea"
Meaning "all earth" has really existed during the Permian Period.

Tertiary Plate
are smaller parts of primary or secondary plates that
have broken off and continued being broken up over time.
LITHOSPHERIC PLATES
Continental Lithosphere
The continental lithosphere is part of the rigid outer rind of the Earth, which is segmented into several major plates.
The solid ground where you stand upon is called the continental
crust
Oceanic Lithosphere
The oceanic lithosphere consists mainly of mafic crust and ultramafic mantle (peridotite) and is denser than continental lithosphere.
The oceanic crust is made of heavier basalt and gabbro rocks.
Plate Tectonic Boundaries
Divergent Plate Boundary
occurs when two tectonic plates move away from each other. Along these boundaries, earthquakes are common and magmarises from the Earth's mantle to the surface, solidifying to create new oceanic crust.
Convergent Plate Boundary
also known as a destructive boundary
is an area on Earth where two or more lithospheric plates collide.
Transform Plate Boundary
occurs when two plates slide past each other, horizontally. A well-known transform plate boundary is the San Andreas Fault, which is responsible for many of California's earthquakes.
is a scientific theory that explains how major landforms are created as a result of Earth's subterranean movements.
