Doug's dad is twitchy, looks intimidating, and always in a grumpy mood.
One of Doug's quotes is "terrific', as in sarcasm.

Doug hides his Joe Pepitone jacket in the basement so his brother does not find it. This is SMART.
Doug's dad drinks less at the end and becomes less abusive.

Lil is a young girl who is Doug's age. As Doug says, she has pretty eyes. Towards the end, she loses all of her hair and has tubes sticking out of her.

Lil and Doug kiss in one of the book scenes. This is probably foreshadowing what will become of these two.

Mrs. Merriam is grumpy because she has not seen her son in a while.
Mrs. Merriam meets Doug while he is sitting on the library steps to get in.
She tells Doug that the library stairs are not for sitting on and that he will get in the way of people entering.
Mrs. Merriam is non-forgetful because she does not forget when Doug talked rude to her.
This event leads to Doug back talking to Mrs. Merriam and disliking her.
Mrs. Merriam is a lady who has looped glasses and works at the library.
Mr. Ballard is a trickster because he tricked Doug into believing that he was just a random old man at the gathering.
Mr. Ballard is an older man who dresses well.
Ballard chose to work work with Doug at the work gathering.

Doug and Ballard win the contest and then Doug finds out that the old man is the Big Bucks Ballard.
Mr. Ballard is a caring man who spends his personal money on his employees.
Doug come to the mill and tries to get his prizes. Ballard tells Doug that he gave the prizes to his father. This leads to Doug mouthing off to his dad.
Mr. Wendemere is crazy because she always says there's a god beside her when typing.
Mrs. Wendermere is determined because she always seems to be typing on her typewriter.
Mrs. Windemere creates a play that has Doug the star.
Mrs. Windemere talks to Doug about the Birds of America painting that she has hanging up.

Mrs. Windemere is an older lady with wiry hair that has pencils sticking out. When typing, her hands are always frantically typing.

Christopher is framed by Ernie Echo for robbing the hardware store and Spicer's deli.
Christopher is blamed for the break in of the Spicer's store.
Christopher is lost because he does not know wheat to do with his life.
Christopher is determined becuase he tries not to make bad Choices so he doesn't turn onto his father.
Christopher looks tough on the outside, but is not.
Principle Peattie is an adult male.
Principle Peattie makes a deal with Doug saying if he is wrong, hell give Doug his Birds of America page.
Principle Peattie has a page from the Birds of America. This distracts Doug and Doug stares at it.
Principal Peattie is kind of weird because he always talks in third person. Example of this is "Look at Principal Peattie...".
Principle Peattie loses the deal and gives his painting to Doug. he also tells Doug that he will go wherever he wants.
Principal Peattie is a jerk because he tells Doug that no teacher cares about him.
