Types of heat transfer
conduction
radiation
convection
Conduction is the transfer of energy from one molecule to another by direct contact.
Convection is the movement of heat by a fluid such as water or air.
:
two types of conduction :
insulators
conductors
the materials which allow heat to pass through them easily are called conductors.
Eg: aluminum, copper, iron etc.
the materials which do not allow heat to pass through them easily are called insulators.
Eg: water, air etc.
Transfer of heat by convection in air :
Sea breeze
Land breeze
In night the water cools down more slowly than the land. So, the cool air from the land moves towards the sea. This is called land breeze.
In day the land gets heated faster than the water. The air over the land becomes hotter and rises up. The cooler air from the sea rushes in towards the land to take its place. The warm air from the land moves towards the sea to complete the cycle. This air from the sea is called sea breeze.
Radiation is the energy that is emitted by matter in the form of photons or electromagnetic waves.
