Organs
Trachea
Function: passage for air, moistens and warms it while it passes into the lungs.
Lungs
Function: The main function of the lungs is the process of gas exchange called respiration. In respiration, oxygen from incoming air enters the blood, and carbon dioxide, a waste gas from the metabolism, leaves the blood.
Nose
Function: big part of why you are able to taste things. The nose is also the main gate to the respiratory system, your body's system for breathing.
Pharynx
Function: serves both the respiratory and digestive systems by receiving air from the nasal cavity and air, food, and water from the oral cavity.
Nasal cavity
Function: The nasal cavity lies above the bone that forms the roof of the mouth and curves down at the back to join the throat. It is divided into two sections called nasal passages. Air moves through these passages during breathing.
Bronchioles
Function: The bronchi carry air into your lungs. At the end of the bronchi, the bronchioles carry air to small sacs in your lungs called alveoli.
