Allergic Reactions
Symptoms
-
Respiratory: Labored breathing (wheezing, cyanosis). Asphyxia(Respiratory arrest)
-
Skin: Angioedema: Further itching of hands, nose, flushed face
-
GI: cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, incontinence
Cardiovascular: pallor, palpitations, hypotension, cardiac arrest, tachycardia
Respiratory: dyspnea, wheezing, increased anxiety
Skin: Urticaria, Pruritis, angiodema, ertyhmia, angiodema of tongue or oropharynx, Tx as anaphylaxis

Signs of Recovery:
Redness goes away on skin, decrease in swelling

Mild Allergy: P: Supine A/B: Maintain Open Airway C: Monitor Pulse, BP D: Admin antihistamine and monitor Pt for worsening symptoms
Anaphylaxis: P-Recumbrant (lying down) A/B- Maintain open airway and admin O2 C- Monitor pulse and BP D- Admin EP and call EMS
Epinephrine: P- for comfort A/B - Admin O2 C- Monitor Pulse/BP D- Reassure Pt and call EMS if needed

Causes:

Allergy to medicine: Penicillin, Sulfa drugs
Food Allergies: Fin fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, eggs, gluten
How to administer Epi

Children: 0.25 mg, injection in Deltoid or thigh until symptoms cease
