Heat and changes of state - Coggle Diagram
Heat and changes of state
when you heat a solid it melts
Melting = Fusion
Fusion: when matter changes from solid to liquid
MELTING POINT: The temperature at which the solid transforms to liquid
When you cool a liquid it solidifies
freezing
Freezing: When matter changes from liquid to solid
FREEZING POINT: the temperature at which a liquid transforms into solid
when you heat a liquid it evaporates
Evaporation
Evaporation: when matter changes from liquid to vapor
BOILING POINT: The temperature at which a liquid boils
Boiling: internal evaporation in a liquid at boling point
When vapor cools, it becomes liquid
Condensation
Condensation: is when gases change into a liquid
For example, when the water vapor in the clouds is exposed to cool air, it starts raining (rain is liquid)
There are cases when solids transform into gas directly withough passing through the liquid state
Sublimation
Sublimation: When a solid changes directly into gas
Ex. Dry ice
Also, there are cases when gases transform directly into solids withoug passing through the liquid state
Deposition
Deposition: When a gas changes directly into a solid
Ex. Snow
Heat of fusion
Heat needed to change a mass matter from solid to liquid
Latent Heat
Heat needed to change some liquid already at boling point into a gas, without changing its temperature
