Blockboard
This is built up from a core of softwood strips, bonded together with adhesive and sandwiched between sheets of hardwood on either side.

Used for furniture manufacture, including fitted kitchens and bedrooms.
Chipboard
Made up of small particles of wood bonded together with resin, and formed into sheets by compression.
It is not as strong as plywood and blockboard, but it is not expensive.

Hardboard
Wood fibres that have been extracted from pulped wood waste.
The fibres are bonded with glues and pressed into sheets to produce a tough board that is smooth on one side and textured on the other.
