Physical Divisions of India
NORTHERN PLAINS
Lies to the south of the Himalayas. They have flat level and are formed by the alluvial deposits by the rivers.
Indus, Ganga, Brahmaputra and their tributaries.
COASTAL PLAINS
It lies to the outer side of the western and the eastern Ghats
Rivers: Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Ganga, Brahmaputra and Kaveri. Sunderban delta forms the largest delta in the world.
PENNINSULAR REGION

Hill Ranges
- Aravali hills, Vindhyas and the Satpuras
It lies to the south of the northern plains and is triangular in shape
INDIAN DESERT
Lies on the western side of India (Rajasthan). It has dry, hot and sandy stretch of land with very little vegetation.
NORTHERN MOUNTAINS

Northern mountains are composed of the three Himalayan ranges
ISLANDS
Two groups of Islands 1) Lakshadweep Islands (also known as Coral Islands) - located in the Arabian Sea and 2 ) Andaman and Nicobar Islands which lie in the Bay of Bengal.
