        This tells me that the Merlion is so desperate to not look at its own reflection that it has to continuously put itself through uncomfortable vomiting to break the reflection of itself in the water.
        
        This tells me that the Merlion is afraid / disgusted / ashamed of its own image. It is uncomfortable with itself.
        
        “Eager to reinvent itself” -> Does it want to forget about the past? Does Singapore want to forget its past?
        
        We have “adopted” English and discarded other languages.

        This tells me that the Merlion wants to be recognised / acknowledged / to be seen.
        
        This tells me that the Merlion is proud to be itself as a half-fish and half-lion hybrid. It is also strong, persuasive and confident in its own decisions, actions and choices.
