Cause
obstruction of BV in brain (causing lack of 02)
hemorrhage of BV in brain
Symptoms
Ataxia: difficulty walking or loss of balance
Hemiparesis: numbness in the face, arm, leg or one side of the body
dizziness
Difficulty talking
unequal and dilated pupils: difficulty seeing
altered consciousness
sudden severe headache
Treatment
P
Conscious or TIA : upright or semi-reclining (whatever comfortable)
unconscious
C
: Monitor pulse
D
: Seek medical assistance immediately, if pt. is unconscious provide BLS
A/B
: Administer Oxygen
Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) are stroke-like symptoms usually lasting minutes to an hour but absolutely resolving by 24 hours.
TIAs also have to be immediately refer for medical evaluation, because are often warning signs that the pt. is at increased risk for a more serious and debilitating stroke.
