Synthetic Fibres and Plastics - Coggle Diagram

- - - - Nylon is the first made synthetic fibre . It was first marketed and imported in New York City and London . It was prepared from coal , petroleum , water and air . Nylon is strong , elastic and lustrous . It is light and easy to wash . Tents , socks , ropes , car seat belts , curtains and toothbrushes are made from nylon . Nylon also is used for making parachutes .
    - - Rayon is also known as "Artificial Silk" . It is obtained by the chemical treatment of wood pulp , yet , it is a man-made fibre . It can be woven like silk fibres and is cheaper than silk .
    - - Polyester is another well-known fibre . It is easy to wash and is wrinkle-resistant . Terylene is a popular polyester . Polyethene Terephthalate(PET) is another popular polyester, which is used in making bottles , utensils films and wires .
      - Polyester is actually made up of several small units called esters , which are chemicals that give fruits their smell . Blended fabrics are sold by names like polycot , polywool , terrycot , etc .
    - - Usually we find some shawls , sweaters or blankets made of acrylic . These fabrics are cheaper and more durable , compared to wool . It can also be dyed into various colours .
- - - - Plastics which get deformed easily on heating and can be bent easily are known as thermoplastics .
      - Examples of Thermoplastics are Polythene and PVC .
    - - The plastics , which when moulded once , cannot be remoulded again is called thermosetting plastics .
      - Examples of thermosetting plastics are Bakelite and Melamine .
  - - - Reduce the use of plastic .
    - - Reuse plastic items in our homes and work-places .
    - - Items such as thermoplastics can be recycled by sending them to the recycling industry .
    - - Recover plastics from waste and use them again .
    - - Refuse unwanted plastics .
