AGAINST school attendance is mandatory in Canada
Rebuttals (Weijie)
Government perspective
The economy improvement is needed to make the whole country stronger so government had built many residential school, public school, and private school to get the children educated. But the government did not provide quality education to make children enjoy school, which causes children have bad experience during school.
Students perspective
Students that went to school in the 1900s were the first period of people getting educated. So the education system on school were not so well and make the students felt comfortable learning in school which causes student to skip school. Although the problem could be fixed by making student attendance more mandatory, students will consider suicide because of the pressure they felt while in school.
Parents perspective
Some of the parents that are not rich have their children brought to school without giving them a choice which eventually breaks the family relationship. Only parents that are rich did not get their children "kidnapped" since they had enough money to send their children to a good school at that time. Breaking the family relationship will make the children that are separated wanted to go back home and meet their family. In that case, how would you expect to get the children well educated?
Students expect that school will make their life easier compared to the days in factories. But student in school faces so many difficulties which are out of thereexpectation.
If the opponent says that education is important in order to improve the country's economy so student attendance should be mandatory. I will reply back as if student attendance should be mandatory, the government should improve the school's education to make the country stronger since how could you rely on students that didn't even enjoy the education system to improve the country's economy?
If the opponent says that if student attendance is not mandatory, students would keep playing around in school time since they will then have a choice to skip school. I will reply back as if the student wanted to skip school, they have their own idea and we should not stop them because everyone have the choice to do what they are passionate about.

Questions
How would you feel if you had no holidays but schooling everydday?
Did you ever think of the students perspective? Students may or may not get depressed, stressed and have anxiety. With no holiday breaks, students are studying non stop and that may lead to some health emergencies. Lastly with no holidays students may not work as productively and energetically as they might.
If you were a student in the 1900s and your parents weren’t as wealthy as some parents would you still want an equal education?
Education is free but how would you know that every parents could afford to send their children to high school since, they were located the cities and only children that had rich parents got to go to school past grade 8 and even if you were in school Lots of people back then didn’t send girls to school at all, because they thought it wasn't important for girls to learn. Even wealthy families didn’t give girls an equal education to boys, and the girls were taught things like sewing and manners instead of school subjects and boys were taught subjects like woodwork.
Do you like being abused or kidnapped?
Answer from my opponent: Yes/ No
Yes good anwer/ ok, and yet they put children in an electric chair for entertainment and punishment, also many of the children that attended residential school were either kidnapped or taken by force by the government officials, parents who tried to withhold them or tried to remove them from the school were imprisoned and also faced arrest. In my opinion, being abused is horrifying and wrong.
Main argument (Ren Yi)
Government support is declining.
In 19th century, school funding was the lowest rate in Canada. If there was funding, it would be in a irregular and unsystemic way. The cost of funding will always be high or low. This proves that the government didn't support education. They thought industries were more important.
It can be very hard for disadvantaged people (like the poor) to access education due to the declining financial support from the government.
70% of school leavers in Canada are not well served by their education system. The 70% lack of vocational education and technical skills to prepare them for work. The Canadian government did little to help them. In fact, Canadian school system doesn’t have optional vocational programs to make students ready for the transition to the workplace.
Without the government support, it seems like the government doesn't care much about the schools and thus citizens will be unmotivated to go to school. Furthermore, the government plays a big role in stabilizing the education. If they stop supporting schools, why should school attendance be mandatory?
Too expensive
The District School Act allowed children to enroll in schools. There should at least be 1 school in each district. However, tuition fees needed to be paid. Some children cannot pay because they have financial problems. Critics also said that the education system is designed for the rich people. They think the Canadian government should include the system of common schooling, where education was given free to people who couldn't afford schools.
Thus, only half of children from age 5 to 15 only went to school.
Parents think that children should focus more on earning money. They thought that education is just a waste of time. Child labour can support the family by improving the financial state of the family.
Final statement
Rough Recap:
People are poor, school is expensive. The system is bad. Everyone has to work to death because of taxes, everything's really expensive for inflation and economy building, so why make school attendance mandatory if they can't even attend school? Child labor is terrible and should not exist but it's condoned as legal?? AND they gonna punish kids for things they cannot change? Meanwhile the government isn't even supporting education because they think the economy is more important and THEN they go and raise taxes. If they're gonna make school attendance mandatory at least do something about the pay raise and money. If it's going to continue like this, there's no point in building schools and education centres anymore.
