CONSEQUENCES OF THE TECTONIC PLATE MOVEMENT
As consequence of the interaction betwen tectonic plates endogenous geological processes hapen there and the results are the next ones
METAMORPHISM
In metamorphism, rocks do
not melt, they only transform
Metamorphism are the physical and chemical
changes that happen on crustal rocks
WHY?
Changes in pressure
Changes in the filtration of water that contains dissolved substances
Changes in the temperature
MAGMATISM
Magmas are generated by the
movement of tectonic plates
They can surface in two ways
Slowly: Plutonic rocks are formed
Violently: the volcanoes are formed
DEFORMATION IN ROCKS
Plate tectonics can cause the
collision of continental crustal blocks
HOW? rocks between the two continental blocks become folded and faulted under compressional stresses.
There can be plastic deformations (form folds)
elastic deformations (form earthquakes)
fractures (form faults)
