- - - - “Listen, Negro,” the way Curley's Wife said that shows us how people with color are treated. She talked to him as if he worked for her.
      - Racial slurs are used often to describe Crooks, but Crooks uses the white language to describe himself, to show how he isn't really respected around other people and how there is no thought shown towards his feelings.
        
        The theme of racism is expatiated and elaborated through the character of Crook. they use him in the book to show the status that black people, especially at that time, were given. He was often called using the word of 'negro' which is an offensive word to use when it comes to saying it to a black person and he was given a stable buck job. although he was met with some nice people such as Lennie in the book that didn't treat him with much disrespect we also see, through the actions of Crook that he is often treated unfairly with white people. We see this in his reaction when he is met with Curley's wife. Once she started to threaten him, he had immediately gotten into a shy shell and retreated from his once open personality.
