Past Tenses
used to/ would
used to + infinitive = past habits or states
:red_cross: no "used to" for: action that happened at a definite time in past
would\used to = repeated actions in the past
"would" is not used with state verbs
be used to + noun\pronoun\ing form = be accustomed to, be in habit of
get used to + noun\pronoun\ing form = become accustomed to
Past Continuous
two simultaneous past actions
to describe the atmosphere, setting in the introduction to a story
an action in progress interrupted by another action
time markers: while, when, as, all morning/afternoon, etc.
an action in progress at a stated time in the past
Past Perfect
is the past equivalent of the
present perfect.
is used with time
expressions: before, already, just, for, since etc.
for an action which finished in the past and the result was visible in the past
an action which happened before another past
action or before a stated time in the past.
Past Simple
an action which happened at a define time in the past
actions which happened immediately one after another in the past
past habits or states which are now finished (with ”used to”)
time expressions: before, after, already, just, for, since, till/until, when, by, by the time, never...
Past Perfect Continuous
Action which finished before another past action
Action which lasted for some time ans the result was visible
For, since, how long, before, until
