The use of a mask is used with the EC clamp technique. One hand is positioned so that the little, ring, and middle fingers grasp the jaw from the angle to the chin, thereby forming the shape of the letter "E". The index finger and thumb of the same hand form the letter "C" and press the mask to the face to seal it tightly.
Pocket mask ventilation offers advantages in alternate rescuer positions and situations when the rescuer's movement is restricted, once secured to the face, the use of a pocket mask could facilitate hyperextension of the neck and therefore may improve ventilation during resuscitation in difficult conditions.
