MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard)
made from fine particles of timber - mixed with resin
safety hazard - dust produced when cutting is harmful - ensure good ventilation etc
comes in large sheets - different thickness (3,6,9,12,24mm)
used for flat pack furniture/shelves etc
Use wood material/fine dust/chips/veneers but go through a process to make into sheets
much more stable
will not warp or bend
come in different thicknesses (3/6/12/24mm)
Plywood
layers of veneer (piles/laminate)
Odd number of layers which is glued together in 90 degrees
strong in all directions
Hardboard
Wood Particles - Mixed with Resin
like MDF but more dense
Used for drawer bottoms / tool walls etc
Chipboard
larger particles of timber - mixed with resin
Used for boarding - construction
blockboard
strips of soft board glued together and faced with hardboard on the outside
very stable - used for worktops and shelves
