Much more stable
Comes in different sizes: 3/6/12/24
Will not warp or bend
MDF
(Medium density fibreboard)
Made by fine particles of timber mixed with resin to create a goo that when set becomes a sheet
SAFETY HAZARD
When cut releases dust that is harmful for eyes and lungs
Comes in large sheets of different thicknesses
Used for flat pack furniture (IKEA)
Plywood
Layers of veneer
Glued at a 90 degree angle
makes it strong in all directions
Odd number layers
Chipboard
larger particles of timber - mixed with resin
used for boarding construction
Hardboard
wood particles - mixed with resin
More dense than MDF
used for drawer / tools
Blockboard
strips of softwood glued together and faced with hardboard on the outside
Very stable used for worktops and shelves
