TENDINITIS
Definition
painful inflammation of the thick-fibrous cords attaching muscles to bone
Pathophysiology
inflamed sheath of tendon produce swelling, redness and pain
swelling of the sheath narrows space in which tendon slides
causing stiffness in the involved area
sensation maybe felt as tendon moves
Nursing management
Apply heat or cold ice to promote healing
encourage patient to elevate the joint to promote venous drainage and decrease swelling
encourage sufficient rest to reduce stress on affected joints until healing occur
discourage doing strenuous exercises that affect joints
Administer medication s prescribed for healing purpose
Clinical manifestations
tenderness
swelling
dull ache
Diagnostic tests
X-ray detect presence of calcium in the tendon
MRI view interior damage of tendon
