Over 1 in 2 men, and 1 in 3 women in Italy are overweight, with more than 1 in 3 children overweight too, one of the highest rates in the OECD. This is due to Italians' diets consisting largely of fatty foods such as cakes, meats, oils, etc. Various other problems including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol can be attributed to a diet with lots of these fatty foods.
