Pain persists about 3-5 minutes
Upright or Semi-Reclining position
Administer Oxygen
Monitor Pulse & BP
If patient falls unconscious start CPR
Administer Nitroglycerin .4mg
Every 5 minutes up to 3x over 15 min
Pain Subsides
Vitals remain stable
Pain does not subside
Vitals are unstable
Reevaluate diagnosis as likely AMI
If patient has history & pain subsides,
you may continue treatment
If patient has never experienced these symptoms,
even if they subside,
discontinue treatment & refer to medical provider.
Emergency Care
Shortness of breath
Nausea
Provide emotional support
Supply oxygen at a high flow rate (15L/minute)
Place patient in restful, comfortable position
Assist patient with medication (NTG)
